The incident occurred when the car veered off the pier and collided with a parked yacht before sinking into the water. The impact overturned the car, submerging it in the canal.
The two men inside, the driver and a passenger, managed to escape unharmed by breaking through the windshield after the crash. Both were able to exit the submerged vehicle safely.
Col Ali Abdullah Al Naqbi, Deputy Director of the Ports Police Station, said the Command and Control Centre received an emergency call at 2:20 p.m. reporting that a vehicle had crashed into a yacht and fallen into the canal with two people inside.
“Rescue teams, including marine patrols and maritime security units, quickly responded to the scene. Thankfully, both individuals had already escaped, and no others were found in the vehicle,” Col Ali said.
Divers descended to the seabed to secure the vehicle with ropes, allowing the recovery crane to safely lift the car from the water and place it back on the dock.
Captain Abdul Rahman Bourguiba, head of the Marine Rescue Division, emphasized the need for regular vehicle maintenance and caution while driving. He urged drivers to follow safety regulations, including speed limits, to prevent accidents.
Bourguiba also encouraged the public to use Dubai’s emergency hotline 999 for urgent situations and the non-emergency number 901 for less critical matters. Additionally, marine users were advised to take advantage of the “Sail Safely” service, which aids in reporting marine incidents swiftly.
