Introduction Of Substack
If you’ve ever wanted to livestream to your audience without worrying about how you look on camera—or maybe you just prefer staying behind the mic—Substack’s got something new for you.

The newsletter platform announced this week that it’s launching an audio-only livestreaming option, giving writers and podcasters a more laid-back, lower-pressure way to connect with their audience in real time. The feature is especially useful for creators who value their privacy, want to stay anonymous, or simply don’t feel like going full video mode.
Using the new feature is as easy as toggling off the camera icon when starting a livestream. If creators change their mind midstream, they can turn video back on with a click. Importantly, listeners will still be able to leave comments and engage, just like in a regular video livestream, so the community element remains fully intact.
The audio-only mode is expected to begin rolling out next week.
This update builds on Substack’s move earlier this year to open up livestreaming capabilities to all creators, after previously limiting access to those with 100+ paying subscribers. With this new audio-first option, Substack continues to blur the line between newsletter and podcast, giving independent publishers more flexibility in how they grow and engage their audiences.
Whether you’re a writer experimenting with spoken word, a podcaster looking for more direct engagement, or just someone who wants to talk without the ring light—this update might be exactly what you needed.
