For years, I had dreamed of visiting this remarkable African country, captivated by its breathtaking landscapes and mesmerizing colors. My expectations were not only met but exceeded by the sheer beauty of nature in the Namib Desert.

Getting to the Namib Desert from Windhoek
I traveled to Windhoek from Cape Town, but no matter where you’re flying from, arriving in the capital is the best way to start your journey. From Windhoek, the drive to the Namib Desert takes approximately 3.5 to 4.5 hours.
Recommended Route:
- Start on Highway C26, a smooth and straight road.
- Turn onto D1275, heading towards Solitaire.
- Drive through Kupferberg Pass and Spreetshoogte Pass (drive slowly here!).
- Stop at Solitaire for fuel, food, and water—this is the last stop before reaching Sesriem.
- Continue for another 30-40 minutes to reach Gondwana Lodges.

- End of the Road – From here, you must take a jeep service to reach Sossusvlei and Deadvlei.
- Deadvlei – A surreal landscape of ancient, dead trees set against towering red dunes. Wear boots to protect against the hot sand.
- Sossusvlei – A stunning, expansive salt and clay pan surrounded by dramatic dunes.
