The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that HBL PSL 12 will be played from March 18 to May 2, 2027, with all eight franchises returning for the second consecutive season under the expanded eight-team format.
The tournament window was finalized following consultations with the league’s key stakeholders after the PSL Governing Council meeting in London on September 1, 2026. Owners and representatives of all eight franchises attended the meeting.
The announcement starts the countdown to the next PSL season, although the complete match schedule, venues and ticketing information have not yet been announced.

All Eight PSL Franchises Will Return
PSL 12 will retain the expanded eight-team structure introduced for the 2026 season.
The league expanded from six to eight teams after the addition of Hyderabad Kingsmen and Sialkot Stallionz. The PCB previously confirmed that the two new franchises joined the existing six teams as part of the league’s expansion.
The eight franchises competing in the expanded league are:
- Islamabad United
- Karachi Kings
- Lahore Qalandars
- Multan Sultans
- Peshawar Zalmi
- Quetta Gladiators
- Hyderabad Kingsmen
- Sialkot Stallionz
The eight-team format will therefore continue for a second successive season.
PSL 12 Follows a Major Change to the League
The 2027 tournament will build on several important changes introduced during PSL 11.
One of the biggest changes was the move away from the traditional player draft.
For the first time, the PSL used a player auction to build franchise squads. The historic auction took place in February 2026, with the PCB reporting that 103 players were sold and the eight franchises completed squads containing 141 players.
The auction represented a major change in how franchises assembled their teams.
For PSL 12, the league has indicated that the next stages of preparations will include direct signings, retention announcements, the trade window and another player auction.
When Will PSL 12 Player Signings and Auction Take Place?
The PCB has confirmed the tournament window, but it has not yet announced the specific dates for all pre-season activities.
According to the official announcement, fans can expect announcements related to:
- Direct signings
- Player retentions
- Trade window
- Player auction
- Full match schedule
- Venues
- Ticketing arrangements
These announcements will gradually provide a clearer picture of the eight squads competing in PSL 12.
This means fans know when the tournament will begin, but they will have to wait for further PCB announcements before the full calendar becomes available.
What Happened in PSL 11?
The announcement of PSL 12 comes after a record-breaking 11th edition.
PSL 11 was the first season to feature eight teams. It also introduced the league’s first-ever player auction and expanded the tournament’s geographical footprint.
The PCB reported that the PSL 11 final at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore attracted a record crowd of 32,461 spectators.
Peshawar Zalmi won the tournament by defeating debutants Hyderabad Kingsmen by five wickets in the final on May 3, 2026. The victory ended a nine-year wait for Peshawar Zalmi’s second PSL title.
The success of the expanded format has now set the stage for another eight-team competition in 2027.
PSL 12 Schedule Is Still Coming
While the PSL 12 official dates are now confirmed, the PCB has not yet released the complete match schedule.
That means fans do not yet have confirmed information about:
- Opening match
- Venue for the opening match
- Individual team fixtures
- Qualifier
- Eliminator matches
- Final venue
- Match timings
- Ticket prices
The PCB says full details regarding the schedule, venues and ticketing will be announced later.
For fans planning to attend matches, the official PCB and PSL channels should therefore be treated as the primary source for ticket announcements.

PSL 12 Could Bring Another Exciting Season
With eight franchises returning, PSL 12 is expected to continue the league’s expanded format.
The eight-team structure gives the competition a broader national footprint and provides additional opportunities for players, fans and franchise owners.
The PCB has also emphasized that PSL 11 established a new benchmark for the competition, with record crowds and the introduction of the auction system. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said the board intends to deliver another strong season in 2027.
PSL CEO Salman Naseer also described the date announcement as the first step toward the 2027 tournament, with direct signings, retentions, trades and the auction expected to generate further excitement in the months ahead.
PSL 12 and the Race for the Next Championship
The confirmed dates give all eight franchises a clear target.
From March 18, 2027, teams will compete for the PSL title, with the championship scheduled to conclude on May 2.
For defending champions Peshawar Zalmi, the challenge will be to defend their title after ending their long wait for a second championship.
For the other seven teams, the objective will be to strengthen their squads and challenge for the trophy.
The upcoming direct-signing period, retention announcements, trades and auction could therefore have a major influence on the balance of the competition before the first ball is bowled.
Why the PSL 12 Dates Matter
The confirmation of the tournament window gives franchises, players and supporters an important planning milestone.
For franchises, it provides a fixed period for squad preparation and commercial planning.
For players, upcoming retention, signing and auction announcements will determine where they could play in 2027.
For fans, the March 18 start date means they can begin looking ahead to another full PSL season.
The confirmation also gives broadcasters, sponsors and event organizers a defined period around which to prepare their activities.
Final Thoughts
The PSL 12 official dates are finally confirmed.
HBL PSL 12 will take place from March 18 to May 2, 2027, with all eight franchises returning for another season under the expanded format.
The league enters its next season after an important 2026 campaign that introduced the eight-team structure and the first-ever player auction. Peshawar Zalmi finished that season as champions after defeating Hyderabad Kingsmen in the final.
The next major milestones will be the direct-signing announcements, player retentions, trade window and auction.
For now, one thing is official: PSL 12 begins on March 18, 2027, and the battle for the next PSL championship will run until May 2.
