UAE Extends 14-Day Exit Pass for Visa

Introduction Of UAE

In a significant move aimed at providing overstayers with increased flexibility, the UAE government has extended the validity of the 14-day exit pass issued to visa amnesty-seekers. This decision grants those eligible for the amnesty until October 31, 2024, to exit the country, UAE authorities announced on Tuesday.

Extension of Grace Period

Previously, the exit pass for individuals benefitting from the visa amnesty programme was only valid for a 14-day period. This extension aligns with the UAE’s ongoing efforts to streamline immigration policies, offering overstayers more time to organize their departure while avoiding penalties. Lt-Gen Salem Bin Ali, Director of the Client Happiness Department at the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, confirmed the extension in a statement to Khaleej Times.

“The UAE government has decided to provide overstayers with more flexibility in their departure timeline,” Lt-Gen Bin Ali explained. However, he also urged individuals to not delay their departure until the last minute.

Advisory on Rising Airfares

Lt-Gen Bin Ali emphasized the financial implications of waiting too long to depart, especially as airfares are likely to increase during the winter travel season. “We request amnesty-seekers not to wait until the last moment to leave, as airfares tend to rise during the winter months,” he advised.

This advisory is crucial for overstayers seeking to minimize costs associated with their exit. With the winter travel rush typically resulting in higher flight prices, early departures could save individuals significant expenses.

Amnesty Programme Overview

The It visa amnesty programme offers a pathway for individuals who have overstayed their visas to rectify their immigration status without facing legal repercussions or fines. Overstayers are provided with the opportunity to leave the country freely, facilitating a smoother transition to resolve their visa issues.

This initiative is part of the UAE’s broader vision to ensure humane immigration practices while maintaining regulatory compliance. It encourages individuals who may have inadvertently overstayed to regularize their status and start afresh either in the UAE or in their home country.

Conclusion

The extension of the exit pass validity until October 31 reflects the UAE’s commitment to providing overstayers with the flexibility needed to navigate their departure under the amnesty programme. However, individuals are advised to take immediate steps to leave the country, given the potential for rising airfares as the year-end approaches.

The amnesty initiative continues to demonstrate the UAE’s balanced approach to immigration, offering overstayers a chance to resolve their status with dignity, while encouraging timely compliance with immigration regulations.
