The operation was launched following a distress call from the merchant vessel MV GOLD AUTUMN, which was operating in international waters when it encountered an onboard emergency. The alert was received and promptly acted upon by the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA), which activated its Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) to coordinate the response.

Rapid Response and Deployment

Acting on the emergency signal, Pakistan Navy Ship PNS Hunain—already on patrol within its assigned operational area—was immediately tasked to assist the distressed vessel. The ship responded without delay, underscoring the Navy’s readiness to handle maritime emergencies across its area of responsibility.

Upon arrival, PNS Hunain’s crew initiated a comprehensive rescue operation under challenging conditions. The team, comprising trained specialists, demonstrated a high level of professionalism and operational capability throughout the mission.

Multi-Faceted Rescue Effort

The rescue operation involved several critical interventions:

  • Medical Assistance: Immediate care was provided to affected crew members onboard the distressed vessel.
  • Firefighting Support: The naval team assisted in containing and managing onboard hazards.
  • Damage Assessment: A thorough evaluation of the vessel’s condition was conducted to ensure safe evacuation.
  • Evacuation: All 18 crew members were safely rescued from the vessel.

The rescued individuals included nationals from China, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Indonesia, highlighting the multinational nature of maritime operations and the importance of coordinated humanitarian responses.

Safe Transfer and Repatriation

Following the successful evacuation, the crew members were transported to Karachi, where they will receive further medical care before being repatriated to their respective countries. Authorities have confirmed that all individuals were rescued safely and are in stable condition.

Commitment to Maritime Safety

This operation once again demonstrates the Pakistan Navy’s commitment to maritime safety and its role as a first responder in regional waters. Conducting rescue operations at extended ranges from the coastline requires not only operational readiness but also seamless coordination between naval and maritime security agencies.

The timely intervention reflects the Navy’s enduring resolve to safeguard life at sea, uphold international maritime obligations, and provide humanitarian assistance whenever required.

As maritime traffic continues to grow in the North Arabian Sea, such operations reinforce Pakistan’s strategic importance in ensuring safety and stability along critical global shipping routes.
