UAE Catholic Churches to Hold Special Masses

Introduction Of UAE

Catholic churches across the UAE will soon hold special Holy Masses to honor the late Pope Francis, following a call from Bishop Paolo Martinelli OFM Cap, the Apostolic Vicar of Southern Arabia (Avosa). While specific timings for these commemorative services have not yet been confirmed, most churches in the country already hold regular daily Mass at 7pm.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Bishop Martinelli urged the faithful across the Emirates to attend these masses in memory of the beloved pontiff.

“I invite all people of God to participate in the Mass for our beloved Pope Francis in their respective parishes,” said the Italian bishop in a Facebook post on Monday. “The People of God in the Apostolic Vicariate of Southern Arabia will always remain grateful for his great service to the Church. Especially here in the UAE, we remember him with deep gratitude for his historic visit to Abu Dhabi in 2019.”

“May the Lord receive Pope Francis into His heavenly abode and grant him eternal peace,” Martinelli added.

Among the churches expected to participate are St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oud Metha, St. Francis of Assisi Church in Jebel Ali, and St. Michael’s Church in Sharjah—all of which typically host daily evening Masses at 7pm.

Further details on the official schedule of these special services will be announced by Avosa in due course.
