Abu Dhabi Fines for Dirty Vehicles in Public

Introduction Of Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi

The Department of Municipalities and Transport in Abu Dhabi has announced stringent regulations regarding abandoned and dirty vehicles in public areas. The new policy aims to maintain the city’s cleanliness and aesthetic appeal by penalizing vehicle owners who neglect their responsibilities.

Penalties for Abandoned and Dirty Vehicles

Motorists who leave their vehicles unkempt or abandoned in public spaces will face severe financial penalties. The fines are structured based on the frequency of the violation:

  • First violation: Dh500 fine
  • Second violation: Dh1,000 fine
  • Third violation: Dh2,000 fine

Additionally, under Law No. 2 of 2012, authorities have stipulated specific penalties for abandoning a vehicle’s body or frame in public spaces:

  • First violation: Dh1,000 fine
  • Second violation: Dh2,000 fine
  • Third violation: Dh4,000 fine

Authorities Take Action Against Negligent Motorists

The Abu Dhabi government has been actively conducting campaigns to raise awareness about abandoned vehicles. Officials emphasize that neglected vehicles not only mar the city’s visual appeal but can also pose environmental and safety hazards.

With the arrival of summer, the likelihood of vehicles being left dirty increases, particularly when residents travel for extended vacations. A 2023 Khaleej Times report highlighted cases where residents returned to find violation notices on their vehicles due to neglect.

Similar Regulations in Other Emirates

Abu Dhabi is not alone in enforcing such regulations. Dubai imposes a Dh500 fine for leaving a vehicle unwashed for a prolonged period in public parking spaces. Inspectors are deployed to identify unkempt cars, place warning notices, and grant owners a 15-day grace period to clean their vehicles before impounding them.

Meanwhile, Sharjah Municipality impounded 3,911 abandoned cars in the first half of 2021, demonstrating the emirate’s strict stance against vehicle neglect.

Conclusion

The latest measures in Abu Dhabi reinforce the emirate’s commitment to urban cleanliness and public order. Residents and motorists are urged to comply with the regulations by ensuring their vehicles remain clean and properly maintained. Neglecting to do so will not only result in financial penalties but may also lead to vehicle impoundment. As authorities continue their efforts, residents must remain vigilant to avoid unnecessary fines and contribute to the city’s upkeep.
