Introduction Of Amazon
Amazon has stepped up its game in the generative AI video space. The company recently rolled out a major upgrade to its video generation model, Nova Reel, now capable of producing clips up to two minutes in length.

Originally launched in December 2024, Nova Reel marked Amazon’s debut in the growing world of AI-generated video, joining competitors like OpenAI and Google. With the latest version—Nova Reel 1.1—Amazon is aiming to sharpen its edge in this increasingly competitive field.
According to a blog post by AWS developer advocate Elizabeth Fuentes, Nova Reel 1.1 can now create “multi-shot” videos with a consistent style throughout. Users can input prompts up to 4,000 characters long, and the model will return a video composed of seamless six-second scenes stitched together into a two-minute sequence.
The update also introduces a new feature called Multishot Manual, giving users more creative control. In this mode, users can guide the model using both a written prompt (up to 512 characters) and a reference image. With these inputs, the model can generate videos made up of as many as 20 individual shots at 1280 x 720 resolution.
For now, Nova Reel remains accessible only through Amazon Web Services (AWS), including tools like Amazon Bedrock, the company’s suite of AI development tools. Developers must still request access, though AWS now automatically approves those requests.
As with many generative AI tools, questions remain around how these models are trained. Generative video models rely on vast datasets of existing content, and critics have raised concerns about the potential use of copyrighted material without consent. Amazon hasn’t disclosed what data was used to train Nova Reel, nor has it provided a formal opt-out process for creators whose content may have been included.
That said, Amazon has committed to defending its AWS customers from potential copyright lawsuits under its standard indemnification policy—a move likely aimed at easing the concerns of developers and enterprise users.
Editor’s note (4:57 p.m. Pacific): A previous version of this article incorrectly suggested that developers need special approval to access Nova Reel. In fact, access is automatically granted once requested. We’ve updated the text to reflect this.
