Bosch Ventures Doubles Down on North America

Introduction Of Bosch Ventures

Bosch Ventures is making a bold move: it’s pouring more money into the North American startup scene with a brand-new $270 million fund, its sixth since launching in 2007. Known for backing deep-tech ventures around the world, the firm is now shifting more of its focus westward — specifically toward the U.S. and Canada.

Why now? North America might be facing economic headwinds — from a volatile stock market to ongoing trade tensions with China — but Bosch Ventures isn’t flinching. In fact, its managing director, Ingo Ramesohl, sees opportunity everywhere.

“I see a lot of positive energy,” Ramesohl told TechCrunch. “People are not stopping to innovate and not stopping to disrupt. So for me, it’s really a great time for new investments.”

With a global footprint that includes offices in Silicon Valley, Boston, Germany, Tel Aviv, and China, Bosch Ventures typically writes checks in the $5 million to $10 million range. Ramesohl expects this fund to fuel about 20 to 25 new investments.

As for what sectors Bosch is betting on? It’s sticking to its deep-tech roots — think automotive innovation, climate tech, semiconductors, cybersecurity, energy efficiency, and enterprise software. But the firm is also paying close attention to one fast-moving area: generative AI, especially where it intersects with the physical world.

“We are not entirely focusing on gen AI,” Ramesohl clarified. Still, Bosch has been deep in the AI game for a while. Since founding the Bosch Center for Artificial Intelligence in 2017, the company has gone all in. By the end of 2023, every single Bosch product was being developed or manufactured using AI.

Ramesohl sees the biggest potential in how AI can transform operations. “Gen AI is changing a lot, and at the same time, it’s enabling a lot of new businesses, a lot of new innovations,” he said.

In short, Bosch Ventures sees this moment as ripe for disruption — and it’s putting serious capital behind that belief.
