The discovery was made by the General Directorate of Ports under the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICAPC). Customs officials flagged the passenger during routine screening. Advanced body scanning technology revealed suspicious foreign objects inside his body, prompting an immediate referral to medical and security personnel. The capsules were subsequently extracted.
This seizure is part of ongoing efforts by UAE authorities to strengthen national security and public safety. ICAPC commended the vigilance and professionalism of the customs inspection team and reaffirmed its commitment to preventing the trafficking of narcotics into the country.
Just last week, customs officials at the same airport thwarted another smuggling attempt involving 5 kilograms of marijuana concealed in a passenger’s luggage. That bust was made after scanning equipment detected anomalies during baggage inspection, which led to a thorough manual search and successful seizure.
The UAE Customs department remains highly alert to evolving smuggling tactics and techniques. Officials emphasize the use of cutting-edge detection technologies, including radiological scanners capable of identifying drugs hidden within the human body. These capabilities are enhanced by international intelligence sharing and ongoing monitoring of global smuggling routes.
To stay ahead of increasingly sophisticated trafficking attempts, ICAPC maintains a comprehensive training program for its inspection teams. This includes continuous skills development, ensuring frontline officers are equipped with the expertise needed to identify and intercept illicit substances swiftly and effectively.
The Authority reiterated its stance: there is zero tolerance for narcotics smuggling, and anyone attempting to compromise the country’s security will be met with decisive action.
