UAE: Ajman Bans Delivery Riders from Fast Lanes

Introduction Of Ajman

Delivery riders in Ajman are now restricted from using the fast lanes, as authorities roll out a new traffic rule to boost road safety. The emirate has officially joined Dubai and Abu Dhabi in implementing lane restrictions for motorcycle couriers.

Under the new rule, delivery bikes in Ajman must stick to the right lanes of the road. On a three-lane road, they can use only the two lanes on the right. On a four-lane road, they’re limited to the two rightmost lanes, meaning the left-most (fast) lanes are off-limits entirely.

This move aligns Ajman with the traffic regulations already enforced in the UAE’s two largest cities. In Abu Dhabi, similar rules came into effect in 2023. There, delivery riders are allowed only in the rightmost lane on roads with speed limits of 100 km/h and above. That means on three- and four-lane roads, motorcyclists must stay in the two rightmost lanes, while on five-lane roads, they can use only the three lanes on the right.

Dubai has had these restrictions in place since 2021. Beyond lane limitations, the city has also imposed a speed cap of 100 km/h for delivery riders.

Violating these rules doesn’t come cheap. Riders caught ignoring the restrictions face fines of up to Dh700. Repeat offenders—those caught three times—risk having their delivery permits suspended.

The move underscores the UAE’s ongoing efforts to improve traffic safety, especially as the number of delivery riders on the road continues to rise.
