In a significant move aimed at recognizing the long-standing contributions of taxi drivers, the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has announced an annual bonus initiative worth more than Dh9 million for owners of old taxi licence plates. This initiative is a direct result of the directives issued by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and reflects the emirate’s continued efforts to support those who have been part of its transportation sector over the years.

According to the SRTA, a total of Dh9,372,000 has been allocated as part of the 2024 bonus scheme. The amount will be distributed among eligible taxi plate owners, offering them financial support and recognition for their long-term involvement in Sharjah’s public transportation system. The authority confirmed that only owners of older taxi plates qualify for the bonus, ensuring that the support is channeled to individuals who have been active stakeholders in the sector for many years.
This initiative is part of a broader vision to improve quality of life for residents and to acknowledge the dedication of individuals who have contributed to the development and operation of vital public services in the emirate. By providing financial incentives to these owners, Sharjah aims to offer stability and encourage continued service excellence in the transport industry.

In a parallel development that complements this initiative, Sharjah Police recently announced the launch of new vehicle number plates featuring a modernized design and improved durability. These enhanced plates are set to replace older versions starting from March 3, 2024. Vehicle owners across the emirate, including taxi drivers, will be able to upgrade their existing plates to the new design, which aligns with Sharjah’s broader goal of modernizing its public services and infrastructure.
The introduction of the new plates is another testament to the emirate’s ongoing efforts to improve services for both residents and citizens.
